taking the time with kisses

making the kisses

On Sunday we spent the day baking and cooking.  We made biscuits for the lunch box and cakes to last the distance.  Dad got into the act and made crumbed steak with Wagu all the way from Tassie $9 a kilo
(a steal)!!!!!  I know it seems like sacra ledge however we have had beautiful meat on the BBQ, and curries.  Today the kids learned how to make homemade bread crumbs from scratch.  Baking in the oven the bread and then crushing the bread into crumbs with a rolling pin.
learning the art of cooking ......love
Cooking as a family....the benefits, you get to slow down, then you enjoy the delectable delights of your work, you learn to be grateful.  The people who have grown the wheat and looked after the cows to get the butter etc.  Learn to put the love into what you do.  Cooking for others with love will always taste great.
rolling...patience and thought

great nana's homemade kisses aka jam drops
This recipe is from my grandmother, thanks Nan ( Bernie ) the kids great grand mother. Something magical happened with another sister and her son around the same time, they made biscuits from their grandmothers famous biscuit recipe!  No planning just synchronicity.  I suppose the change in weather could be at play and like autumn the season does  get us to prepare to slow down.  The seasons do teach us how to live, to drop our baggage, to reflect, to prepare, to restore, to celebrate the joyous summer, to begin harvesting.  We do not have snow here in Brisbane, but to harvest is to gather our selves and to take stock of where we are at.  To plan our hibernation. To restore and be patient so we can burst forth into our spring with vitality.
afternoon walk

As our eldest mentioned tonight, we are very lucky we have a fire place to enjoy our evenings sharing our days  which we can in a snap shot capture as  low, medium and highs.  ( That is another story).
